Building on the November, 2025 lobbying trip to Victoria meeting BC MLA’s, members of ETEA’s organizing committee intend to meet with BC MLA’s again this winter when government is in session. In coordination with the Federation of Post-Secondary Educators we intend to meet ministers to further our message and promote our industry. In addition, we aim to establish and maintain communication with the relevant MLA’s through letter writing and email dialogue.
From the information we have obtained so far, it seems very unlikely the federal government will change course on their policy of slashing immigration numbers and restricting numbers of student visas through 2028.
Therefore, the focus of our message is if private-public partnerships in education delivery are happening, government should choose union. Unionized schools have higher standards and choosing union raises the educational quality for the sector. As experts in the field of English language training, we want to be included in their plans as the government pivots to more public-private partnerships.
